Who are we?
The 'Zingende Brug' is an open
association of people who share a common interest in the folk song
tradition, and welcomes anybody who wants to make acquaintance with it. We
promote songs from every European country, always in the original language.
Sometimes we look beyond the borders of Europe, and now and again we sing
something modern for a change. In this way we carry on the work which
the Viennese filologist Sepp Gregor (1903-1987) started in Essen,
Germany, in 1949: building bridges
over European borders
through singing. We won't save the world with songs, but it remains especially fascinating to submerge ourselves in this rich heritage and to discover what songs have in common and what makes them different. In this way we get to understand the culture and nature of a people, a region or an era. Music, pronunciation and background information on a song all are equally important. |

The 'Zingende Brug' is not a choir, but
rather a permanent song workshop, approached in different ways.
There are monthly meetings in Berchem-Antwerp and in Brussels. Once a year there is a one day workshop, a singing weekend and a summer
singing week. We organize regular trips abroad to refresh contact with the
roots
of the songs. The 'Zingende Brug' does not think in terms of choir rehearsals or concerts,
people just come along whenever they are able to. For place and dates see 'Activities'. |
